Bois de la famille des moracées, dont l'un des arbres les plus connus est le figuier.
Ce bois est très dense et peut rappeler des motifs de peau de serpent, c'est pour cela qu'il est appelé snakewood en anglais.
Il est très fendant, de petites sections. Sur un arbre haut de 24 m, seul 15 à 25 cm de son diamètre sera exploitable.
C'est un des bois les plus précieux.
